Description
A traditional Greek beef stew that combines rich flavors with hearty ingredients for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs Beef Chuck, diced
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 Onion, diced
- 4 Garlic cloves, minced
- 2 Tomatoes, chopped (or 1 can of diced tomatoes)
- 1 cup Red Wine (optional)
- 4 cups Beef Broth
- 1 cup Orzo Pasta
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 1 Bay Leaf
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Increase heat to medium-high and add beef chuck pieces; sear on all sides for 8-10 minutes.
- Pour in red wine and stir to deglaze the pot, scraping the bottom for flavorful bits.
- Mix in tomatoes, beef broth, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle boil.
- Lower heat to maintain a simmer. Cover and cook for 1.5 hours until beef is tender, stirring occasionally.
- Once beef is tender, remove the lid and stir in the orzo. Adjust broth as necessary for consistency.
- Cook uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes until orzo is al dente. Remove cinnamon stick and bay leaf before serving.
Notes
Top with fresh parsley or feta cheese for added flavor. Serve with crusty bread or a side salad.
