Giouvetsi Greek Beef Stew

Description

A traditional Greek beef stew that combines rich flavors with hearty ingredients for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Beef Chuck, diced
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion, diced
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 Tomatoes, chopped (or 1 can of diced tomatoes)
  • 1 cup Red Wine (optional)
  • 4 cups Beef Broth
  • 1 cup Orzo Pasta
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  2. Increase heat to medium-high and add beef chuck pieces; sear on all sides for 8-10 minutes.
  3. Pour in red wine and stir to deglaze the pot, scraping the bottom for flavorful bits.
  4. Mix in tomatoes, beef broth, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle boil.
  5. Lower heat to maintain a simmer. Cover and cook for 1.5 hours until beef is tender, stirring occasionally.
  6. Once beef is tender, remove the lid and stir in the orzo. Adjust broth as necessary for consistency.
  7. Cook uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes until orzo is al dente. Remove cinnamon stick and bay leaf before serving.

Notes

Top with fresh parsley or feta cheese for added flavor. Serve with crusty bread or a side salad.
