Description
Golden, crispy mozzarella sticks made with string cheese and air-fried instead of deep-fried—light, crunchy, indulgent, and surprisingly easy to make. A crowd-pleasing, healthier spin on the classic snack.
Ingredients
6 mozzarella string cheese sticks (cut in half for 12 pieces)
1 large egg, beaten
¾ cup whole wheat breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)
½ tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Italian seasoning
¼ tsp salt
Cooking spray (olive oil or nonstick spray)
Instructions
Freeze cheese sticks for at least 30 minutes to prevent melting.
Set up two bowls: one with beaten egg, and the other with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt.
Coat each frozen cheese stick in egg, then breadcrumbs; double-coat if desired.
Freeze-coated sticks for another 10–15 minutes to firm up.
Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C). Spray the basket, arrange sticks in a single layer, spray tops, and air fry 6–8 minutes until golden, flipping halfway.
Let cool 2 minutes before serving with your favorite dipping sauce.
