Indulge in the rich flavor and stunning appearance of red velvet sugar cookies, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda until evenly combined.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Add the red food coloring, mixing until the color is uniform throughout the dough.
  6. Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
  7. Scoop and shape the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, allowing space for expansion.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers remain slightly soft. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes
