- 2 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
- 1 large Egg
- 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
- Red food coloring (gel-based)
- Green food coloring (gel-based)
Instructions
- Cream the softened butter and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and cocoa powder.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until well combined.
- Divide the dough in half; color one half red and the other half green.
- Wrap each colored dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour.
- Roll out both colored dough pieces into rectangles about 1/4-inch thick.
- Layer the green dough on top of the red dough and roll into a log shape.
- Chill the cookie log again for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the chilled log into 1/4-inch thick slices and bake for 10-12 minutes.
- Cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Nice to gift these cookies in festive tins or drizzled with icing for extra sweetness. They can be made ahead and frozen for convenience.
