- 1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 2 large Eggs
- 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- Food Coloring (various colors)
- Sprinkles or Festive Toppings (optional)
Instructions
- Cream the butter and sugars together in a large mixing bowl until fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, incorporating each before adding the next, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Sift together the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl, then gradually mix into the butter mixture.
- Divide the dough into portions and color each with gel food coloring.
- Roll each colored dough between parchment paper into rectangles about 1/4 inch thick.
- Layer the colored doughs and roll them into a log, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), slice the chilled log into 1/4 inch thick rounds, and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Cool on a baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks and decorate with sprinkles if desired.
