Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Food Coloring (various colors)
  • Sprinkles or Festive Toppings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugars together in a large mixing bowl until fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, incorporating each before adding the next, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Sift together the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl, then gradually mix into the butter mixture.
  4. Divide the dough into portions and color each with gel food coloring.
  5. Roll each colored dough between parchment paper into rectangles about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Layer the colored doughs and roll them into a log, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), slice the chilled log into 1/4 inch thick rounds, and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
  8. Cool on a baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks and decorate with sprinkles if desired.
