Description
A delicious combination of juicy beef, melty cheese, and caramelized onions between two slices of buttery bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 4 slices Swiss or American cheese
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 8 slices rye or sourdough bread
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the thinly sliced onions and sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Cook for about 10 minutes until they become soft and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
- While the onions are cooking, shape the ground beef into four equal patties, roughly ¾-inch thick. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
- In another skillet, add 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Once sizzling, add the patties and cook for about 4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Add a slice of cheese on top of each patty before finishing.
- To assemble, place a slice of bread, add a cheesy patty, a spoonful of caramelized onions, and top with another slice of bread.
- In the same skillet, melt another tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Grill each sandwich for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the sandwich, slice diagonally, and serve hot.
Notes
Serve with pickles or coleslaw for a refreshing contrast. Consider dipping sauces for added flavor.
