Description
These soft and fluffy homemade dinner rolls are golden, buttery, and foolproof! Perfect for holiday meals or everyday dinners, they’re simple to make and always a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
1 cup whole milk, warmed (about 110°F)
¼ cup granulated sugar
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
1 ½ teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon olive oil (for greasing bowl)
Instructions
Proof the yeast: Warm the milk and pour into a mixing bowl. Stir in sugar and yeast; let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Mix the dough: Add melted butter and salt. Gradually stir in flour, one cup at a time, until dough forms. Knead with dough hook or by hand until smooth and elastic, about 6–8 minutes.
First rise: Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, 1–1.5 hours.
Shape the rolls: Punch down dough and divide into 15 equal pieces. Roll into balls and place in a greased 9×13-inch dish or on a lined baking sheet.
Second rise: Cover again and let rise until puffy, about 30 minutes.
Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake rolls 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
Finish & serve: Brush with melted butter while still warm. Serve immediately.
Notes
Make Ahead: Shape rolls, cover tightly, and refrigerate overnight. Let rise at room temp before baking.
Freezer-Friendly: Bake fully, cool, then freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven to serve.
Variations: Try garlic butter, herbs, or cheese mixed into the dough for fun flavor twists.
