- Low-moisture mozzarella cheese sticks
- All-purpose flour (or gluten-free alternative)
- 2 large eggs (or egg substitute)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably seasoned or panko)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (or nutritional yeast for vegan)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Cut mozzarella cheese sticks into 3-4 inch lengths and keep them chilled.
- Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour seasoned with salt and pepper, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs, Parmesan, and Italian seasoning.
- Dredge each cheese stick in flour, then dip in egg, and finally roll in the breadcrumb mixture.
- Freeze the coated mozzarella sticks on a lined baking sheet for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat to around 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
- Serve immediately, optionally with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
For a healthier alternative, bake the coated sticks at 425°F (220°C) until crispy instead of frying.
