- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (or nut milk)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, blend the cream cheese, cocoa powder, lemon zest, and a portion of the powdered sugar until smooth. Spoon this mixture over the first layer of cake batter.
- Carefully dollop the remaining cake batter over the cream cheese mixture.
- Bake for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
