  • 8 ounces macaroni pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Boil salted water and cook the macaroni until al dente, then drain and return to pot.
  3. In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter and whisk in 4 tablespoons of flour until a paste forms. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk until thickened, then stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, and spices, mixing gently.
  5. Layer half the macaroni and cheese mixture in the baking dish, spread the meatloaf mixture on top, then finish with the remaining macaroni and cheese.
  6. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top and bake for 35-45 minutes until cooked through.

Notes

Allow the casserole to rest for 10 minutes after baking for easier slicing.
