Description

These Greek meatballs in a rich tomato sauce are a comforting and flavorful dish that showcases Mediterranean culinary traditions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ground Beef (or Pork)
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Coriander
  • 1 pinch Cinnamon
  • 2 cups Tomato Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely diced onion, minced garlic, egg, and spices. Mix gently.
  2. Form the mixture into uniform balls, about 1-1.5 inches in diameter, and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Heat olive oil over medium heat, then add the meatballs in batches. Cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté extra garlic and onion, then add tomato sauce and simmer.
  5. Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs over rice, pasta, or bread.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider using lean ground turkey and whole grain breadcrumbs.
