Description
A delightful nut roll filled with a rich mixture of nuts, spices, and sweet dough, perfect for holiday celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons yeast
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, warm the milk and dissolve the yeast in it. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the yeast mixture and softened butter to the dry mixture and mix until combined. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough rises, prepare the filling by combining the chopped nuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and beaten egg in a mixing bowl.
- Once dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the nut filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Roll the dough into a log shape, tucking in the ends.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the log seam-side down on a greased baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let the nut roll cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
