Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Cut out heart shapes using a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  4. Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of half of the cut hearts.
  5. Top with the remaining pastry hearts, crimp edges with a fork, and brush the tops with egg wash.
  6. Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For a vegan option, use plant-based butter and substitute the egg wash with a milk alternative.
