Description

A classic British dish featuring hearty sausages and creamy mashed potatoes topped with savory onion gravy.

Ingredients

  • Sausages (pork or beef)
  • Potatoes (about 2-3 large)
  • Butter (2 tablespoons)
  • Milk (1 cup)
  • Onions (2 large)
  • Flour (2 tablespoons)
  • Beef stock (2 cups)
  • Worcestershire sauce (1 tablespoon)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Peel and chop the potatoes into evenly sized pieces, then boil in salted water until tender (15-20 minutes).
  2. Cook the Sausages: In a non-stick skillet, cook the sausages over medium heat for about 15 minutes, turning frequently.
  3. Caramelize the Onions: Remove sausages and add sliced onions to the skillet, cooking over low heat until soft and caramelized (10-12 minutes).
  4. Make the Gravy: Add flour to the onions, cook briefly, then gradually add beef stock and Worcestershire sauce until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Prepare the Mash: Drain the cooked potatoes, mash with butter and milk until smooth, seasoning to taste.
  6. Serve: Plate the mashed potatoes, top with sausages, and drizzle with onion gravy.

Notes

For a healthier twist, consider turkey or chicken sausages, or use sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes.
